If you want to find the best flooring for 2026, it won’t be found in the most advertised names that you see in Lowes, Home Depot, and Floor & Décor. It isn’t that they don’t have good options, but they also have very mixed reviews on some of their products. If you are looking for easy to install, waterproof, and durability, then I recommend looking into the technology of the brands. Some of those names listed above have good options, but they also have cheap options.
Many times “rigid core” products are what you find in most locations. It can range from a very low cost to a higher cost. The common complaint of the lower cost options is durability, chipping, and coming apart. The premium products will also be thicker and should use a locking system other than a DYI system. You will usually find more durable Rigid Core products in retail locations. They are more expensive, but you will get a better product. You may find that the retail location may be just as thick, but weigh more. It is more dense, so it is more durable.

Nothing could compare to it for the first few years. It was thick, easy to install, durable, and waterproof. It is still a great product today. You can find products that use COREtec technology in box stores, but it isn’t the same as what you will find in a retail location. WPC luxury vinyl is a thicker, more comfortable, and durable floor that a SPC luxury vinyl floor. SPC is thinner normally, more dense, and more impact resistant. It has a different type of core that makes it heavier also. The more inexpensive products can have problems with corners chipping and not staying locked together. The thicker the product, the better chances it will have to stay together.
When it comes to durability, you want to have at least a 20 mil wear layer. Products with less tend to have problems with scratching earlier and not lasting as long. You can find some products with a 30 mil wear layer.
If you are looking for the best brands, it won’t be coming from box stores. Retail store products will out perform box store even if they are from the same company. The better products will cost more. COREtec may be the original luxury vinyl plank, but there is a huge market now of options that will go toe to toe with it. It will come down to how they look and what looks the best in your home.
